Short Pay Video Poker
Short Pay video poker machines are machines that pay less than optimal odds to the player. Obviously, when you consider casino policy, there will always be a lot more short pay machines out on the floor than long pay machines. You have to be a very careful poker player if you want to avoid the common trap of the the short machine.
The way that you can recognize a short machine is through its payout. Long machines have the best possible pay out rates, 9 coins for a full house and 6 coins for a flush. Short pay machines typically pay out 8 coins for a full house and 5 for a flush. Even if you to play the exact same way on a short machine as you typically would play on a long machine, you will still walk away with less money in the long run. Do everything you can to avoid short machines, those pennies can really add up.
Just in case you were wondering, the payout rates for machines are required to be posted in the casino. Normally they are posted near, or even on, the video poker machines. That’s where you need to look to know whether you have a short or a long machine. If you can’t find the pay table, ask a casino employee. They should be able to help you out.
